Aluminium Free Deodorants That Really Work

I stopped using deodorants containing aluminium a couple of years ago and haven’t looked back since. I’d feared that I may not end up selling quite as fresh, but in fact I’ve found that the process of using aluminium free deodorants has been way more effective. I’ve also noticed that I no longer get the irritation and itchiness that I used to get when using aluminium deodorants, and my skin is generally much softer and smoother. It’s a no brainer.

What is so bad about aluminium deodorants?

As inconvenient as it may be, sweating is an essential process for eliminating toxins from the body. By using a deodorant containing aluminium salts, the sweat glands under the arms are prevented from detoxing effectively and can result in an accumulation of toxins in that area. There’s also suggestion that by applying aluminium deodorants after shaving you are more at risk of absorbing any of the more harmful ingredients. Some studies suggest that for this reason there could be a link between using aluminium deodorants and risk of breast cancer.

Aluminium free deodorants worth switching for

When it comes to natural deodorants, I’ve tried the lot. Pastes, balms, roll-ons, sprays and crystals. I’ve found that best ones feel light, last all day and soothe my skin. You absolutely do not want a heavy feeling product that dries out your skin anywhere near your underarms. Here are my favourite aluminium free deodorants.

Wild offer a genius subscription service whereby you can buy a refillable case and then opt to receive refills every 2, 3 or 4 months. It works out at £5 per refill which is really reasonable given the natural ingredients list. There are five scents to choose between, Orange Zest being my latest obsession. Who doesn’t want to smell like orange sherbet first thing on a morning? I’m a big fan of this deodorant for everyday use as it lasts well from 9-5. Just go easy on the application as it can leave white marks on darker clothing.

Sometimes I go for a double layered approach by using Salt of the Earth Crystal Stick and Spray in combination. The stick is the best natural deodorant for using before a workout or on a hot day that I’ve ever come across. It’s a crystal that glides onto wet skin and works by leaving a thin layer of natural mineral salts. There’s also a plastic free version which works just as well as it really doesn’t need any packaging. The sticks aren’t scented so I like to follow up with the Amber and Sandlewood or Melon and Cucumber spray which both give a delicious scent. I’ve been using this brand for years and suggest that they are the first you try if you’re making the switch.

The secret to smooth underarms

Once or twice a week I sweep my underarms with a cotton pad soaked in glycolic acid to give a deep clean and remove any dead skin cells. I’ve recently ditched my plastic razor for a safety razor and haven’t noticed any raised bumps or irritation ever since. You wouldn’t even believe the difference that this routine has made.

Do you already use an aluminium free deodorant or will you now be making the switch?
