Where to Stay Near to Split Croatia

Villa Milla, Okrug Gornji

At the end of August, my mum and I shared a two bedroom apartment for 11 nights at Villa Milla, close to Okrug Gornji. I picked it out after we decided to go for a more authentic experience than staying in a big, fancy hotel as we’ve done in years gone past. Our stay was faultless from the minute we arrived to the second we left, with the owners making a continuous effort to offer tips, advice and friendly chats.

The apartment was immaculate on arrival and was so spacious that I felt in the lap of luxury at all times. Finished with minimal, scandi designs, along with all the mod cons, I felt right at home from the go.

Only having small corner shops to buy food in wasn’t going to stop me from cooking up a chickpea curry feast. I have never put a box of curry powder into my shopping basket so fast. There is only so much pasta, pizza and chips I can take before the urge to cook a wholesome meal of my own takes over.

On most days we had the pool to ourselves for hours on end, truly a blessing when all you want to do is float around on a peach almost as big as your own.

If you plan on staying in self catering, stock up on fresh fruit and veg at the stalls that line each road. On our first day a wonderful old lady insisted that she fill my carrier bag with plums free of charge.

Brown Beach House Hotel, Trogir

If you have a taste for luxury, Brown Beach House will be your vibe. The trendy, sophisticated atmosphere is reminiscent of a sprawling Tuscan villa, with plenty of friendly staff on hand to assist in making your stay even more relaxing. You know you’ve hit the holiday jackpot when you can order cocktails directly from your sun lounger by the pool.

If your budget doesn’t stretch quite as far as a stay at Brown Beach House, you simply must settle on a stop off for breakfast. As we were self-catering for the rest of the holiday, it was a welcome change to be waited on and to have something other than toast with chocolate spread. Shakshuka is my new best friend.
