Discovering the Island of Ciovo in Croatia

Before we all settle down for autumn, let me transport you back to the searing heat that comes with being aboard in the peak of summer. The unrivalled bliss of sipping on cocktails by the pool whilst dipping in and out of a best seller.

For most of my holiday I shot my photos using an Olympus MJU ll with Kodak Porta 400 film. I’m in awe of how beautifully they turned out and have filled this post almost entirely with them.

Discovering the Island of Ciovo in Croatia

For the third holiday in a row, we opted to book a trip back to Croatia. Our first was to Rovinj in the north, the second was to Dubrovnik in the south and for this time around we picked Split, somewhat in the middle. I say Split, but in actual fact we avoided the city itself and stayed near to the town of Trogir on the island of Ciovo, just a short taxi ride away from the airport.

Beach Vela Draga was a brisk fifteen minute walk away from our apartment, winding around the edge of where the sea meets the land. Its charming, relaxed vibe makes it feel as if you have stepped back twenty years in time.

A slightly longer walk of twenty minutes to the marina at Okrug Gornji allows you to hop straight onto a water taxi to take you into the town of Trogir. By far the best way to fully immerse yourself into the local area. No car rental needed.

For authentic, homemade pasta you simply must visit Pizzeria Kristian. The artichoke pasta below was some of the best I’ve had in my entire life.

If you’re after comfort food that really hits the spot, get along to Vrata O’Grada. We had delicious chickpea burgers here one evening which made a welcome change from having to choose from just a few basic vegetarian options on other menus.

The return flights were our first experience with Jet2, but certainly won’t be our last. From check in at Stansted to take off and landing in Split and for all of the return journey too, each member of staff made an effort to be calm, welcoming and efficient. As a nervous flyer I felt completely at ease for the first time in years. The mood lighting is such a genius touch too and gives the premium feel that you’d expect on a long haul flight.
